It’s Time for Next Generation Standards Collaboration for Climate Neutrality and Resilience

Presentation of the Fairtrade Climate Standard: towards a more holistic and fairer carbon approach

Despite the proven benefits of carbon finance projects, credibility is at risk. The Fairtrade Climate Standard could bring much needed fairness to the carbon market through access, participation and training of smallholders and extra funds to invest in climate adaptation. Adaptation investments in natural infrastructure for water management

Many nature based solutions are focused at project intervention level, yet the climate change impacts on hydrology will be across river basins and regions, impacting agriculture, human health, and ecosystems. Investment in water and restoring water-related ecosystems provides significant economic, social and environmental opportunities. This event will focus on the challenge of raising capital and mobilising it at a scale that has impact to cope with climate change.

Launch of the Fairtrade Climate Standard

Together with Fairtrade International, project developers and commercial partners we will be showcasing the new Fairtrade Climate Standard and announcing the first commercial commitments to purchase Fairtrade Carbon Credits. There will be a panel discussion followed by a cocktail and networking event. More information to follow soon.

Global Landscape Forum: The role of agro-ecology in exploring innovative, viable adaptation measures for resilient smallholder coffee landscapes

Matchmaking between cities and investors

Le Bourget, Green Zone, Cities and Region Pavilion, workshop room 
The workshop will elaborate on how to best create matchmaking opportunities between cities seeking access to finance for their low-carbon projects and investors that look for bankable city-level projects. The discussion will focus on a concrete public transportation project in the city of Balikpapan (Indonesia) that has been submitted under the ICLEI-led Transformative Action Program (TAP) to flag it to potential funders. South Pole and Gold Standard will present a pre-feasibility assessment for this project under the Low Carbon City Lab, and discuss the project’s suitability for result-based finance. Starting from this project, the participants will discuss lessons from TAP, the WWF Earth Hour City Challenge and a CDP project on how to enable matchmaking between investors and cities.
